Psalms – Session 1
Introduction to the Psalms:
Writer: Most of the Psalms are written by David, and there are a few other named writers indicated with the respective Psalms. Thirty-four Psalms do not identify the writer.
Scope: These songs, poems, and prayers, were collected over a period of centuries, to be read, and sung, in the temple. Some of them pre-date the exile; most of them appear after the exile over a long period of time. As we have them in our Bibles today, it’s a collection of five books: Book 1: Psalms 1-41; Book 2: Psalms 42-72; Book 3: Psalms 73-89; Book 4: Psalms 90-106; Book 5: Psalms 107-150.
