Chapter 6. Free

What then should we say next?

  • Should there be more sinning so that grace would multiply?
  • Absolutely not! How could we possibly continue to live in sin
  • Since we have already died to sin? And, do you know that
  • Baptism into Christ Jesus also means baptism into His death?
  • Through baptism, we were buried with Him in death, so
  • Just as Christ was raised from death, we also should live a new
  • Kind of life; If we have joined with Him in His death, we
  • Would also join with Him in His resurrection, knowing that
  • Our old self was crucified with Him, that we might leave our
  • Old, sinful ways behind, and no longer be slaves to sin, for he
  • Who has died has been made free from sin;
  • If we died with Christ, we believe we shall also live with Him;
  • Christ will not see death again, and when He died, He died to
  • Sin for all of us, and now He lives to God, and while you
  • Consider yourselves dead to sin, you are also alive to God, in
  • Christ Jesus, our Lord;
  • So, do not allow sin to have control over your body where you
  • Would obey its desires; And never permit your body to become
  • A part of anything ungodly, causing you to sin, but always be in
  • God’s presence, alive from death, to be used in service to Him;
  • Now sin shall no longer have control over you, for you are no
  • Longer under law, but under grace;
  • What does this mean? Since we are living under grace, and not
  • Under the law, shall we continue to sin? Absolutely not!
  • Do you not know that whomever you choose to obey, you
  • Become a slave for that which you choose, whether to sin for
  • Death, or obedience for living right;
  • But, thanks be to God, you once were slaves to sin, and yet you
  • Obeyed the leading of your heart to the beliefs which have
  • Been entrusted to you; And having been set free from sin, you
  • Have become slaves to a life of right living; I am speaking now
  • In human terms as your body is still weak; Before, when you
  • Were slaves to sin, you were led into more sinning, but now
  • You can dedicate your body as a slave to right living unto
  • Sanctification; When you were slaves to sin, you had little
  • Regard for right living; What did you do then of which you
  • Are now ashamed? Those things all lead to self-destruction;
  • But now that you have been set free from sinning, you are
  • Slaves to God, which leads to your sanctification and then to
  • Eternal life; For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of
  • God is eternal life in Christ Jesus are Lord.

Chapter 7. Saved

Do you not know, brothers, and I am sure that you do,

  • That the law rules over a man for his entire life?
  • As a woman who has a husband is committed to him for life,
  • But if he dies, she then is released from him; But if he lives,
  • And she marries another man, she will become an adulteress;
  • But if he dies, she then is free from that law, and does not
  • Become an adulteress, though she has married another man;
  • Therefore, my brothers, you have died to the law through the
  • Body of Christ, so that you may be married to Him who is
  • Raised from death, that we might live for God;
  • When we were still living after the desires of sin, convicted by
  • The law, we were moving toward destruction; But now that we
  • Have been made free from the law and sinning, we can live the
  • New life in the Spirit, being loosed from the law;
  • So, is the law sinful? Absolutely not! The law has served to
  • Show me my sin; That’s how I knew it was wrong to covet:
  • The law says ‘You shall not covet;’ But the law, by itself,
  • Created opportunities for sin by bringing up all kinds of evil
  • Desires within me, for without the law, sin would not exist;
  • Without the law, I was once free to do whatever I wanted,
  • When the commandments came, though they were intended to
  • Bring life, they brought death to me, because I was deceived by
  • Sin; But the law is holy, and the commandments are holy, and
  • Just, and good; Has something good caused me to face death?
  • Not at all! But sin, causing me to look like sin, was using the
  • Commandments against me, and causing me to sin more;
  • We know that the law is spiritual, but I am physical, bound to
  • Sin; I do not understand what I am doing: I do not do what I
  • Truly want to do, and I hate the things I actually do; So then
  • When I do the things I do not want to do, I am proving that
  • The law is good; Now, all the wrong things I do are actually
  • Being done by the sin living within me; For I know that there
  • Is nothing good living within my body, because I cannot figure
  • Out how to do the good things I really want to do; There is a
  • Law, I have found, that evil resides within me, even when I
  • Want to do good things; For my inner man takes great pleasure
  • In the law of God; But there is another law creating a war
  • Within my mind, and it makes me a captive to the law of sin;
  • I am such a wretched man! Who will save me from this dead
  • Body? Thanks be to God, it is Jesus Christ our Lord!
  • He has freed my mind to rightly serve God, and to control
  • The sinful desires of the body.

One thought on “Bible

  1. So many people stop when they read the last few verses of chapter 7, and use it to explain/justify doing what they don’t want to do or not doing what they want to do. They don’t put it together with the fact that Jesus is the deliverer from that kind of life. Thankful He has the power!
