Session 8
Chapter 16. Ask
I have been telling you all these things to keep you from stumbling:
- You will be banned from the synagogues;
- They will try to kill you thinking they are serving God;
- They do this because they do not know the Father nor Me;
- I want you to remember all these things I have told you;
- Soon, I am going back to the Father who sent Me;
- And none of you are asking where I am going;
- I know that you are being overcome with sorrow;
- But it will be to your benefit for me to leave;
- The Helper can only come to you when I send Him;
- When He gets here He will convict the world of sin,
- Of righteousness, and of judgement:
- Their sin is that they do not believe in Me;
- Of righteousness, because I am gone from the world;
- Judgement, because the ruler of this world is judged;
- There is still much I would like to tell you,
- But you would not be able to bear it all now;
- When the Spirit of truth comes, He will tell you all truth;
- He will tell you of things that are coming;
- He will tell you everything about Me;
- Soon, I am leaving, but soon after that I will return to you;
- In a little while I am going to be with the Father;
- The disciples murmur among themselves:
- Asking what Jesus means by what He is saying to them;
- Jesus knows what they are murmuring about;
- So, He asks them: Are you wondering about what I said,
- That I was leaving soon, but would be returning soon?
- Surely, you will weep and lament,
- But the world will rejoice while you are full of sorrow;
- But your sorrow will be turned into joy,
- As a woman gives birth to a child after the anguish of labor;
- I will see you again and your joy will never be taken away;
- You will no longer ask anything of Me;
- But whatever you ask the Father in My name,
- He will give you; Ask, and you will receive, and be joyful;
- Until now, I have spoken to you in figurative language;
- But soon I will be telling you plainly about the Father;
- And in that day you will ask the Father in My name;
- I will no longer need to pray the Father for you;
- The Father Himself loves you, and you have loved Me;
- And you believe that I have come from God,
- And I will be leaving this world and returning to God;
- The disciples suddenly see what Jesus is talking about;
- They say no one should be doubting Jesus is from God;
- So, Jesus says to them: Do you now believe?
- Soon, you will all be scattered to your own places;
- But I will not be left alone, as the Father is with Me;
- I have told you all these things that you may have peace;
- In the world there is trouble, but I have overcome the world.
Chapter 17. Finished
Lifting His eyes to heaven, Jesus prays these words:
- Father, the hour has come, Glorify your Son,
- That Your Son may glorify You;
- You have given Him authority to give eternal life
- To everyone You have given Him;
- Eternal life means that they may know You, the true God,
- And Jesus Christ whom You have sent;
- I have glorified You, and finished the work You sent me to do;
- And now, Father, glorify Me with Yourself together again
- As We were before the world was created;
- I have revealed You to these men You gave Me;
- They were Yours and You gave them to Me;
- And they have kept Your word;
- And they know that everything You gave Me, came from You;
- I have given to them the words that You gave to Me;
- They have received them, and believe that You sent Me;
- I pray for them, not for the world, but for those You gave Me;
- All Mine are Yours, Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them;
- I am no longer in the world, but they are still here;
- Keep them through Your name that they be one, as We are;
- While I was with them, I kept them, except for the one–
- The son of perdition that would fulfill the Scripture;
- Now, I am coming to You, leaving them with words of joy;
- I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them
- As they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world;
- I do not pray that You take them from the world,
- But that You keep them from the evil one;
- Set them apart by Your truth, Your word is truth;
- As You sent Me into the world, I have sent them to the world;
- For them I sanctify Myself, so they may be sanctified by truth;
- Besides these, I am also praying for everyone who will believe;
- That they all may be one in Us as we are One;
- The glory that You gave Me I gave them that they be one;
- I in them, and You in Me, that the world may see and believe;
- Father, I desire that those you gave Me can always be with Me
- That they may be able to see My glory which You gave me
- Before the foundation of the world;
- The world has not known you, Father, but I have known You;
- And these have known that You sent Me;
- That the love with which You loved Me, may be in them also.
