Back here in the Bible room again today, we continue our reading in the Gospel of John with Session 7, the summaries of chapters 14 and 15.

Session 7

Chapter 14. Helper

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God; believe also in Me:

• There are many dwellings in My father’s house;
• I go to prepare a place for you; and I will come back here,
• And take you with Me so that we will be together;
• You know where I am going, and you know the way;
• Thomas says he does not know where Jesus is going,
• So, he does not know the way;
• Jesus tells him: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life;
• All who come to the Father must come through Me;
• If you had known Me you would have known My Father;
• From now on you know Him, and have seen Him;
• Philip says: Show us the Father, and we will be satisfied;
• Jesus says: Philip, I have been with you all this time,
• And yet you still do not know Me?
• When you have seen Me, you have seen the Father;
• Why now are you saying: Show us the Father?
• Do you not believe that I am in the Father,
• And the Father is in Me?
• Everything I have said and done has come from the Father,
• Who lives in Me and does all the works;
• Believe that I am in the Father, or believe because of the works;
• He who believes in Me shall do greater works than I do,
• Because I am going to the Father, and whatever you ask
• In my name, I will do it to glorify the Father in the Son;
• If you ask anything of Me, I will do it;
• If you love Me, you will keep My commandments;
• And I will send you another Helper to be with you forever–
• The Spirit of truth: He will live within you;
• I will not leave you as orphans: I will be with you;
• I will be leaving soon, and the world will no longer see Me;
• But you will see Me. I will live and you will live also;
• I am in My Father, you in me, and I in you;
• He who keeps My commandments loves Me;
• He who loves Me will be loved by My Father;
• And I will love him, and reveal Myself to him;
• Judas (not Iscariot) asks how Jesus will reveal Himself
• To the disciples but not to the world;
• Jesus says: Anyone who loves Me will keep My word;
• And they will be able to see Me and the Father,
• As we will be making our home with them;
• I have spoken these things while I have been with you;
• But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send,
• Will teach you everything, and help you remember
• All the things that I have said to you;
• Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;
• It is not like the world gives;
• Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid;
• You heard Me say I am going away, and I am coming back;
• If you love Me this should make you very happy;
• I am going to My Father for He is greater than I;
• I tell you this before it happens so you will believe it is true;
• I will not talk much more as the world leader is coming;
• And he has nothing to do with Me;
• But I have done what the Father has told Me to do;
• Now, let us leave this place.

Chapter 15. Branches

I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser:

• Branches that do not bear fruit are taken away;
• Branches that bear fruit are trimmed to bear more fruit;
• You are already clean from listening to My words;
• A branch cannot bear fruit unless it remains in the vine;
• If you are to bear fruit, you must abide in Me;
• I am the vine, you are the branches;
• He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit;
• Without Me you can do nothing;
• Anyone who does not abide in Me is cast out and withers;
• Those are then gathered and thrown into the fire;
• If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
• Ask what you want and it will be done for you;
• My Father is glorified when you bear much fruit,
• So you will be My disciples;
• As the Father has loved Me, I love you, accept My love;
• Keep My commandments and you will love Me;
• Just as I have obeyed My Father and stay in His love;
• I say these things to you that you may be full of joy;
• I tell you to love one another as I have loved you;
• There is no greater love than to give one’s life for his friends;
• You are my friends if you obey the commands I give you;
• No longer will I call you servants, but I now call you friends;
• I have told you everything I have heard from My Father;
• You did not choose Me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit;
• Whatever you ask in My name, the Father will give you;
• I tell you these things that you will love one another;
• If the world hates you, know that they hated Me before you;
• If you were of the world, they would love you;
• But they hate you because I chose you out of the world;
• They persecuted Me, and they will persecute you;
• They will do these things to you because of Me;
• And they do not know Him who sent Me;
• I have spoken to them, and they have no excuse for their sin;
• He who hates Me hates My Father also;
• All this has happened that scripture might be fulfilled:
• “They hated Me without a cause”;
• But when I send the Helper to you from the Father,
• The Spirit of truth, He will testify of Me;
• And you also, having been with Me from the beginning,
• Will bear witness of Me.
