Micah
Session 2 of 2
Chapter 4. Forever
At a time in the future, the Lord will establish His kingdom forever:
- He will welcome all people to come to His house;
- The Lord of Judah will rule His kingdom from Jerusalem;
- All the nations will cease to make war against Him;
- They will beat their swords into plow shares;
- And their spears into pruning hooks;
- They shall not learn war anymore;
- There will be peace; His people will follow the Lord forever;
- And they will rule from Jerusalem forever;
- But for now, there will be birth pangs, times of sorrow;
- His people will be taken to Babylon to suffer;
- And the Lord will deliver them, make them great again;
- The possessions of the enemies will be consecrated to Him.
Chapter 5. One
The Lord says there will come forth the One out of Bethlehem:
- He will be the One who has always been;
- He will be ruler in Israel, and the peace of the earth;
- He will deliver His people from their enemies;
- His people will be scattered among the Gentiles;
- And the Lord will gather His people from everywhere;
- Their enemies will be cut down, their idols destroyed;
- The Lord will save His people from all their enemies.
Chapter 6. Complaint
The Lord has a complaint against His people, Israel:
- He asks them a rhetorical question: What has He done?
- He has done everything He could do for them;
- He saved them out of slavery in Egypt;
- He has blessed them with everything they have needed;
- They have sacrificed animals, but their heart is not pure;
- He has shown them all He really wants them to do;
- To do justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with God;
- But there remains wrongdoing among His people;
- Cheating, lying, violence, mistreating others, idolatry;
- All the wickedness committed by King Ahab remains;
- Therefore, the Lord will send punishment upon them;
- There will be sickness, famine, crop failure;
- His people will become a desolation.
Chapter 7. Compassion
The Lord will not be angry forever; He has compassion for Israel:
- The Lord is in distress over the continual sins of His people;
- He says there is no upright men left among them;
- They are taking bribes, cheating, extorting;
- They are looking for ways to do evil with both hands;
- You cannot trust a friend; even a relative will do you wrong;
- But the Lord will come and bring light in the darkness;
- He will show His people marvelous things;
- He will pardon His people for their sins;
- He gets pleasure in His mercy and has compassion for Israel;
- He will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
