Hosea – Session 2 of 4
Chapter 4. Charges
The Lord places charges against His people, Israel:
- Some of the charges: swearing, lying, killing, stealing, adultery;
- No one is serving God in Israel;
- There is unrestrained bloodshed without mercy;
- Sorrow is everywhere, people are destroying themselves;
- The people have forgotten the laws of God;
- They are dying for their lack of knowledge of God;
- For this, God says He will forget their children;
- Their sins keep increasing as the people increase;
- Prostitution, idol worship, and wine causes them to stray;
- Though Israel has fallen, Judah should stay true.
Chapter 5. Stumbled
Israel has gotten deeply into idolatry; the nation has stumbled and fallen:
- And Judah has stumbled and fallen along with Israel;
- They will go in search of the Lord but will not find Him;
- The Lord has departed and hidden himself from them;
- The leaders of Judah have led them astray also;
- The Lord will punish them with His anger;
- He will attack Israel and Judah like a lion and a young lion;
- He will take them away where no one can help them;
- When they repent, they will once again seek the Lord.
Chapter 6. Regret
The Lord offers healing to Israel and Judah, but they refuse His offers:
- He says He will return to them and bind their wounds;
- But they have been like a morning cloud;
- Like the early dew they have blown away;
- The Lord desires mercy rather than sacrifice;
- He wants obedience to God rather than burnt offerings;
- The people have broken their promise to keep God’s Law;
- They have become a nation of criminals;
- Even their priests have joined in lewd behaviors;
- In the future Israel and Judah will regret what they have done.
