A New Way to Click

By Rev. H. Wayne Hunter

Reluctantly, I have been dragged into the computer age. To my surprise I enjoy and profit by its use. But getting past my fear of destroying the thing, making a mistake, and crashing the whatever it is you crash has been difficult.

The kids have not had that problem. They push buttons, click the mouse with abandon. No fear of crash, no worries about making mistakes just the joy of discovery and learning. They blissfully surf into the unknown, going places where no mouse has ever gone before! And as a result, they know a lot, a gigabyte more than I do.

But somewhere along the way fear of mistakes chained us. Old ways became familiar, distrust of the new inhibited us. Ruts may be deep but they hold no surprises. Computers “supposedly” make things easier, but change is difficult.

Who says we never stop learning as disciples of Jesus? Do we have the courage to learn, to try, to attempt new expressions of the faith? Where are we taking risks, or where are we being stretched? Maybe we need to put down the pen, take up the keyboard, and see what happens. God calls us to love, serve, give, fast, and go in ways that seem strange to us—in degrees the world can’t comprehend.

Let us try the new way. To His glory.
